Years of Service: 1967-1984
Dr. Robert L. Jones was hired in 1967 as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Mississippi State University. President William Giles selected him to implement and develop a professional organization to meet student needs. The task was not easy, but with a newly formed Division of Student Affairs, Dr. Jones brought a level of professionalism and national networking critique that Mississippi State University needed at that time. He provided strong leadership to young staff, and brought a sense of best practices to the division. He served MSU with distinction for seventeen years, a period in history reflective of changes in our country and society as a whole. Dr. Jones legacy is that of success and growth during those many changes, and when he left in 1984, he left a modern, well organized Division of Student Affairs that continues to this day.
